Radio Philharmonic Orchestra

(part-time)

The Stichting Omroep Muziek (SOM) facilitates the concert series and the ensembles of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting (NPO): the Netherlands Radio Choir (het Groot Omroepkoor) and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (Radio Filharmonisch Orkest). The orchestra plays a prominent part in the concert series of the NPO, such as the “NTR ZaterdagMatinee”, “AVROTROS Vrijdagconcert” and “Het Zondagochtend Concert”, where it plays great orchestral symphonic works from the Romantic era to the present day.

The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra has established a prominent place in Dutch musical life since its foundation in 1945. Together with the Netherlands Radio Choir, the orchestra received the Concertgebouw Prize in September 2017, emphasizing the quality of both ensembles once again. In the Dutch music scene, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra distinguishes itself through specially programmed symphonic concerts and has also distinguished itself remarkably with concertante opera performances and Dutch music. First performances in the Netherlands and world premieres are an important part of the repertory. Our chief-conductor is Karina Canellakis.
