Scottish Opera is Scotland’s national opera company and the largest performing arts organisation in Scotland. We invite applications for the role of Chorus Master, to succeed Jonathon Cole-Swinard, who after three successful years in which our freelance chorus has continued to gather plaudits from audiences and critics alike, is leaving to continue and expand his work as Head of Music at Garsington Opera.
The Chorus Master holds a key artistic and management role within Scottish Opera and has responsibility to audition, engage and prepare singers for each chorus to contribute to the work of the Company and to help deliver our artistic vision.
Our ideal candidate will be a music graduate, have experience in managing a professional opera chorus and must have extensive knowledge of the operatic repertoire. Keyboard skills to a professional repetiteur level and an understanding of voices are essential, considerable experience of choral conducting, and a working knowledge of languages, especially Italian, French and German are required. The candidate should understand the working practices of large theatres and it is essential that they are a proficient English speaker with good oral and written communication skills. Proven organisational and strong leadership skills are also necessary.
